First afternoon, Rome!!

We made it!! A magnificent (but heavily jetlagged and weary) afternoon was spent wandering the narrow streets and lanes of Rome. Our hotel is in a really cool section of town, cafes, markets, street vendors and performers of every variety AND gelato bars (yay!) are everywhere just outside our door. Our tour guide, Simona, is very helpful (I am sure we would be lost in about eight seconds without her leading the way) and friendly and it is kind of hard to believe that we walk along a little cobblestone path (can't quite work out if they are roads or footpaths, wherever you walk their seems to be a car or scooter beeping you out of the way!), step around a corner and right there is the Pantheon, or the Piazza Navona (with the magnificent Fountain of the Four Rivers), or the Trevi Fountain (we ate gelato and for those who tossed their three coins over their right shoulder, lookout parents, you will have to bring them back!). It is all so amazing and beautiful. Dinner was delicious in Simona's family restaurant, 'Marios' (of course!). Unfortunately, most of us didn't realise the pasta was only an entree and we all struggled somewhat to eat through our jet lag (all the kids even knocked back desert!)...tomorrow night we will be more prepared. The weather is stunning and today (Sunday) we will walk to Forum, Circus Maximus, Colosseum etc. Here is a few photos from yesterday afternoon.
